Scott Syroka is considering a run for Congress, but he needs to know if he has enough financial support to be viable. He's a Johnston native and former Johnston City Councilman that graduated from Johnston High School and received his bachelor's degree from Georgetown University.

Scott went on to work in the private sector, taking his own stab at entrepreneurship, as well as working at businesses big and small. One of those businesses was Google. While there, he supported projects like the annual Year in Search film, the /About site, Google Doodles, and the Grow with Google initiative.

On the Johnston City Council, Scott worked with the mayor and council to oversee a $70 million annual operating budget with nearly 200 employees. They increased competition in the local broadband market, established a grant program for pandemic-afflicted businesses, and improved access to key public buildings for families with special needs. During his time in office, the city property tax rate decreased to its lowest level in years.

When the Biden Administration asked Scott to serve his country at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), he answered the call. At OPM, he was proud to serve as part of the team that delivered results for Americans including:

  • Increasing the minimum wage to $15 per hour for all federal workers
  • Cutting the retirement claims backlog and successfully leveraging the Technology Modernization Fund to reduce it even more in the years to come
  • Slashing red tape to expand access to federal jobs for Americans without college degrees

In both the private and public sectors, Scott worked with countless people trying to make a difference, but he also witnessed when issues like an excessive focus on profits over people, organizational inertia, and bureaucratic red tape can block them. Now, he’s looking at running for Congress to pursue real reform and make government work better for all of us.
